"CLARY! THAT'S SO AWESOME!" Isabelle squealed loudly enough that her voice echoed through the empty institute. Clary had just told her about the pregnancy and other than Jace, she was glad that someone was happy for her. Clary was sure that Jace was happy; he just had a different way of showing it.
breathe!" Clary responded barely audible over the girly squeals of her friend.
"Oh," Isabelle released her," sorry, I just can't believe it!"
"Can't believe what?" Clary asked in astonishment
"Isn't it obvious? I never thought Jace would've agreed to this." Clary just stood there, where was Jace? She wondered, he was here only a moment ago. Clary looked around some more, all she saw was the emptiness of the institute; but then she saw that the front door was open a crack, just enough to let a little light in. With that Clary headed towards the door without looking back to Isabelle.
Jace just sat there, looking at the couple across the street. They were happy, glowing even. He and Clary had been like that only hours ago, but now everything was different. Now he was going to be a father, now he had to pretend he was happy, for her, for the baby. He couldn't hurt her again, not after what happened only years ago. All Clary wanted was to be happy, all she wanted was to have a kid and start fresh, treat her child they way she and Jace had never been treated.
"Jace," Clary had seen Jace sitting on the step solemnly, head in his hands worrying," what's wrong?"
"You know," He began," people always congratulate you on something that they think is happy, but they never thing of the things that might be wrong."
"You're not happy with this," Jace opened his mouth to protest, but she cut him off," don't tell me some bullshit line about how this is what you always wanted Jace, because I saw the look on your face when I told you that I was pregnant." Jace held her gaze and could see a tear forming in her eyes, the ones he'd looked into so long ago, the eyes that made him realize that she was the one he wanted, and now he was letting her down. Jace just took her in his arms and buried his face in her neck as he could hear her sobbing.
"What is this?" Jace looked up to see Jocelyn gesturing to her daughter, whose tears were soaking his shirt.
"Well, you see----" Clary had brought her head up just as he had started to fumble his words, she motioned for him to stop as she stood up to look her mother in the eyes.
"Mum, I'm pregnant."
